(Guiyang, Guizhou Province—May 06, 2021) At noon on May 05, when Yang Aiqing, wife of Guiyang Renai Reformed Church’s Elder Zhang Chunlei, arrived at the Yunyan District Police Station, an officer handed her a “notice of arrest” that officials had issued to her husband. The notice revealed that police had arrested Elder Zhang Chunlei at 3 pm May 01 under the charge of “suspected fraud.” The Yunyan District procuratorate had approved the arrest.

Currently, police detain Elder Zhang in the Yunyan District Detention Center. In response to this persecution, Re’nai Reformed Church published the following prayer request letter, asking fellow Christians to pray for Elder Zhang:
As our church suffers from injustice and experiences this extremely difficult time, we deeply thank our fellow Christians in Christ for the love, care, and help you have given us. To uphold the integrity and honesty of our church, we make a formal statement to all churches and Christians who support us:

Since Elder Zhang Chunlei was detained on March 16, we published “A prayer request letter from Re’nai Reformed Church” and “Kingdom prayer request letter.” Other than that, we have never authorized any individual to publish any information to the public on behalf of us. We base the legal support our congregation has provided on their trust, on rule of law, and their practice of Christian faith.
We thank God for all the brothers and sisters yoked together with us, and those who care about our suffering. We will continue to publish more information at appropriate times in the future. We ask our fellow believers in Christ to continue praying for us.
Elder Zhang had been administratively detained since March 16 for 11 days. Afterward, authorities placed him under criminal detention for 37 more days under the charge of “suspected fraud.” He received a formal “notice of arrest” on May 1.

A new commandment I give to you,
that you love one another;
as I have loved you,
that you also love one another.
By this all will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another.”
