The testimonies that follow are true. Our prayer for you as you read them is that, in addition to becoming better informed of China’s escalating campaign of religious persecution, you will be built up in your own faith and stand with us in awe of the love and faithfulness of our wonderful God.

Hua Huiqi
January 26, 2007. About 8 a.m., as house church activist Hua Huiqi and his 76-year-old mother walked together near a 2008 Olympic hotel site, seven police officers attacked them, kicking them to the ground. When Hua asked why they were being attacked and requested that they release his sick mother, he was beaten repeatedly, soaked with cold water (the temperature in Beijing was in the mid-20’s) and taken to the Olympic Police Station for interrogation. The next day, Hua’s wife, Wei Jumei, was told by police over the telephone that her husband had been sentenced to 30 days criminal detention.
Zhang (Bike) Mingxuan
Mr. Zhang Minxuan (55), is president of the 300,000-member Chinese House Church Association. He was converted in 1986 and began to work as a missionary in his hometown. In July 1998 Zhang became a sensation among Chinese Christians when his mission trip took him 17,000 km. (10,563 mi.), through 24 provinces by bicycle. In December 1998 Zhang and his wife, Xie Fenglan, sold their property and became itinerant missionaries, working in 20 provinces. They currently live in Beijing.
Since Zhang gave his life to Jesus Christ, he and his family have been persecuted. He was illegally arrested six times, sent to labor camps three times and locked in an asylum for the insane.
Zhang has had to move frequently. Once he was forced out of his home four times in two weeks. In order to drive Zhang from his mission field, local police often threaten his landlord with confiscating the house he rents to Zhang and his family. When the landlord refused, police sent gangs of thugs to deliver the threats.
On the eve of President George W. Bush’s visit to China in November 2005, Zhang and his younger son were kidnapped and locked in a hotel until the President left China. At the same time, the Communist government in Beijing continues to interfere with Zhang’s attempts to obtain a visa to come to America.
