(Nanle, Henan—Dec. 11, 2013) ChinaAid has learned that Xia Jun, the primary defense attorney in the Nanle County Christian Church case, along with 14 other defense attorneys, are currently engaged in a hunger strike outside of the Nanle County Public Security Bureau office and are reportedly under attack.

The lawyers are defending church pastor Zhang Shaojie and 23 other believers, who have been detained for more than three weeks (see https://chinaaid.org/2013/11/three-self-sanctioned-church-pastor-and.htmlhttps://chinaaid.org/2013/11/more-governmental-obstacles-faced-by.html and https://chinaaid.org/2013/12/nanle-county-christian-church-spends.html).

ChinaAid will continue to monitor the situation and update the story as it more information becomes available. Please pray for the safety of these lawyers as they carry out their protest. Also, continue to pray for the detainees. Finally, pray that God would change the hearts of the authorities; pray that they will immediately release the arbitrarily detained believers.
