Government abuse results in death of Christian’s unborn baby

(Chengdu, Sichuan—Jan. 9, 2019) Nearly a month after officials forcibly dragged a Christian woman in China’s Sichuan province from her bed and continuously harassed her, she has lost her unborn child.

The woman, a member of the persecuted Early Rain Covenant Church, was 10 weeks pregnant when she was found bleeding profusely on Saturday afternoon and rushed to a hospital. Her baby, whom she had named Abel, had died in her womb after she suffered repeated persecution from Chinese authorities.

On the night of Dec. 9, a night in which around 100 members of Early Rain Covenant Church were taken into custody, authorities entered the woman’s home, removed her from her bed by force, and interrogated her. Ever since then, they have constantly harassed her.

After learning of her child’s passing, she wrote a poem called “On the Way,” in which she expressed that God had taken her child to heaven and that she and everyone else would be “on the way” to visit him.
