Baoan District Court authorities sentence four Christians for selling Bible players

(Shenzhen, Guangdong province) On July 28, ChinaAid learned that Baoan District Court sentenced four Christians, Fu Xuanjuan, Deng Tianyong, Han Li, and Feng Qunhao for selling Bible players. The court found them guilty of “illegal business operations” and sentenced:

  • Fu Xuanjuan for 6 years and a fine of RMB ¥200,000 (~$30,977).
  • Deng Tianyong for 3 years and a fine of RMB ¥50,000 (~$7,744).
  • Feng Qunhao for 2 years and 6 months and a fine of RMB ¥30,000 (~$4,646).
  • Han Li for 1 year and 3 months and a fine of RMB ¥10,000 (~$1,548).

In addition to harshly sentencing these four Christians, Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities confiscated all six models of Bible players and six computers from them and Shenzhen “Tree of Life” .

CCP authorities charged Fu Xuanjuan, Deng Tianyong, Han Li, and Feng Qunhao from Shenzhen “Tree of Life” with “illegal business operations,” however their arrests evolved from selling Bible players.

  • Fu Xuanjuan [female], born December 20, 1978, originally from in Dajiao Village, Changle Township, Hepu County, Beihai City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, worked as the legal representative of Shenzhen “Tree of Life.”
  • Deng Tianyong [male], born December 4, 1971, originally from group 40 of Huiyuan Neighborhood Committee, Zhongshan City, Shaxi Township, Guangdong Province worked for Shenzhen “Tree of Life” since its founding. He oversaw and managed the digital content in Bible players.
  • Feng Qunhao [male], born June 13, 1976, originally from Taochong Village, Sihui City, Guangdong Province, provided technical support and copied digital content that Deng Tianyong approved. Like Deng Tianyong, he had worked for Shenzhen “Tree of Life” since its start.
  • Han Li [female], born November 14, 1981, originally from Baiqiuer Village, Wenchang City, Hainan Province, worked as a receptionist for Shenzhen “Tree of Life.” Responsible for accounting and bookkeeping, she also packaged products and scheduled transportation of products.

Police officers arrested Fu Xuanjuan, Deng Tianyong, Han Li, and Feng Qunhao At 4 pm on July 2, 2020 in suite 701A, Henglin building, Jieyu Village, Baoan District. On July 3, 2020 Baoan police officers detained the four Christians at their station under the charge of “suspected illegal business operations.” The Baoan District procuratorate approved their formal charges.

On August 6, 2020, Baoan police officers formally arrested the four Christians at the Baoan police station. At present, CCP authorities hold them in Qiuwei Detention Center. Officials have threatened their family members, and lawyers to prevent them from disclosing any information about the case.

After Baoan District procuratorate sent the case to Baoan District Court, the court accepted the case:

  • Case Number: (2020) Guangdong 0306 Criminal 3596.
  • Judge Song Qiaoxian (phone number: +86-0755-29997281).
  • Assistant Judge: Huang Shiting (phone number: +86-0755-29997260).

Baoan District Court held the first trial in Number 6 Trial Division of Baoan District Court on November 27, 2020.

Baoan District Court held the second trial on December 9, 2020.

According to the procuratorate’s indictment paper, Shenzhen “Tree of Life” Technology Development Company gained RMB ¥3661847.84 (~$567,165) through illegal business operations from January 2018 to June 2020. The procuratorate ruled that Fu Xuanjuan, Deng Tianyong, Han Li, and Feng Qunhao violated Article 225 of the Criminal Law of People’s Republic of China. The procuratorate suggested that Fu Xuanjuan receive a 5-year sentence and a fine. The procuratorate suggested that Deng Tianyong receive a 3-year sentence and a fine. The procuratorate suggested that Feng Qunhao receive a 3-year sentence and a fine. The procuratorate suggested that Han Li receive a 1 and a half year sentence and a fine.
