ChinaAid Issues Declaration Concerning Recent Persecution

ChinaAid Association
October 22, 2010

On October 20, 2010, a large group of police officers raided the home of Dr. Fan Yafeng, the prominent Christian lawyer and leader of Christian Human Rights Lawyers of China, a legal defense group committed to safeguarding human rights in China. He was forcibly seized by police, causing a sprain in his ankle. He was then detained by Shuangyushu Police Station for eight hours.
In another development, according to Voice of America, Yu Jie, the dissident Christian writer from Beijing, has been under house arrest, not being able to leave his home or have visitors.
ChinaAid is shocked by the actions of Beijing, and is saddened that the authorities would resort to these illegal acts. In recent days, the Chinese government has persisted in such erroneous actions. Besides continuing the detention of Nobel Peace Prize winner Liu Xiaobo, the government has also continually persecuted over 200 Chinese invitees to the Lausanne Congress. Even government-sanctioned TSPM churches have been attacked, as in the case of the violent persecution against the Christians in Changchunli Church in Ji’nan, Shandong province.
ChinaAid calls on the churches and Christians within China to unite and pray for each other and stand for the legitimate rights Chinese citizens through law, truth, peace and non-violent means, so as to pursue righteousness.
Pastor Bob Fu, president ChinaAid, strongly denounces the Chinese government for trampling upon the rights of their citizens. He extends great respect to the persecuted Chinese invitees to the Lausanne Congress, Fan Yafeng, Yu Jie and the pastors and believers of Changchunli Church who bravely face the persecution from the government.
Let us give each other encouragement with the words of God in Hebrew 10:35-36: “Therefore, do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised.”
