(Washington, D.C.—Aug. 2, 2018) ChinaAid launched a White House petition today to free a North Carolina pastor who has been locked away one year of a seven year sentence on a trumped up charge.

The petition, which can be signed here, raises the case of John Cao, an America-based pastor renowned for establishing schools for more than 2,000 impoverished children in Myanmar’s Wa State. While he was crossing the Chinese-Myanmar border on March 5, 2017, authorities detained them and framed Cao with organizing illegal border crossing, even though he used the same route many times. He was later sentenced to seven years in prison.

Because of this, ChinaAid is calling on the White House to take action on behalf of Cao and uphold its commitment to religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law by urging the Chinese government to free this innocent pastor.
