Chinese Christian released on bail

(Gulin, Sichuan province—January 19, 2023) Authorities released Chinese Christian Lin Xuesui on January 14. Lin was initially arrested during a Sunday service on June 14, 2022. Officials eventually charged him with “organizing and funding an illegal gathering.”

The reason for his release was that his father contracted COVID-19. Instead of staying in the detention center, the Court allowed him to go home to take care of his father.

Officials arrested Lin Xuesui after his continued involvement with the residents of Gulin county, an area Lin thought needed the Gospel. Li Chunqin, Lin’s wife, previously published a prayer request detailing his mission and arrest:

It doesn’t violate any law for Christians to gather on Sunday. Of course, it is not a crime either! We believe “it is mine to avenge; I will repay, says the Lord.” We pray God to guard us and show His mercy on us. “The eyes of the Lord are everywhere, keeping watch on the wicked and the good.” We hope God raise more people who love Him through such tribulation.

Human rights lawyers Zhang Kai and Yuan Mao decided to defend Lin Xuesui in October 2022.
