(Ningbo, Zhejiang—April 22, 2016) Public outcry broke out against the government-backed persecution of Christians after officials failed to demolish a church in China’s coastal Zhejiang province on Monday.

When Christians from Yingmochen Church, a house church in Ningbo, Zhejiang, heard that authorities had ordered the demolition of their church building on April 18, they rushed to the scene to pray and sing Christian songs. An estimated 100 church members showed up and successfully deterred the demolition team from carrying out their plan.

Afterward, many church attendees decried the government’s advances against Christians. One church member said, “We are very disappointed in the government. What should we do in confronting this type of government? How [loud] must we shout? How much must we pray to God? We have been plundered and coerced, and our lives are full of all kinds of danger. There was a [Christian] sister who was buried alive … We really hope the authorities will pay attention to us and be concerned about us.”

“The government does not take our pain, helplessness and misery into consideration,” another Christian, surnamed Wu, said.

Likewise, Sun, a Christian who attends Yingmochen Church, told a China Aid reporter that if Christians do anything that displeases the government, officials will suppress them “regardless of the results.”

By exposing abuses, such as those experienced by Christians attending Yingmochen Church, China Aid promotes religious freedom and rule of law in China.
