—Official Report from China.

(Beijing- June 16, 2008) On May 28, a conference on the special administration on Christian gathering sites was held in Beijing and Deputy Mayor Cheng Hong attended the conference and delivered a speech.  Leaders from various districts and county governments and people from departments in charge of religious affairs from various districts attended the conference.  Zhao Hongsheng, special commissioner from the Municipal Committee on Ethnic Minority Affairs (CEMA), delivered a speech in which he briefed the members on the state of special administration on Christian gathering sites across the municipality in the previous stage of the work. People from various districts and counties respectively reported the situation in their own area.
The conference was presided over by Shen Jianjun, director of the Municipal Bureau of Religion. The conference represents yet another obvious example of the Government’s intention to organize a pre-Olympic campaign to eradicate the house church movement before the Games begin in August.
