(Beijing—July 5, 2019) Fiona Huang, the daughter-in-law of a jailed former Chinese security chief, Tweeted yesterday how police attempted to enter her home to “inspect her residence,” according to reports.

On Twitter, Huang says the people who came to her door on July 4 did not give any written procedures to support their actions.

Reports say Huang, who is an American citizen, received advice from her lawyer and the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. She was told to decline requests by police to enter unless they tried to force their way in the property.

Huang posted a photo from her home security system depicting police standing outside her house.

ChinaAid has provided previous coverage on the story of Huang Wan, known in English as Fiona. She has been without freedom for more than 2,000 days since December 1, 2013.

She was set to receive a “certificate of release from community correction” in June, and made plans to visit the United States.

However, a request to block her exit from China received approval amid a civil lawsuit notice early last month.

Huang characterizes the situation as

“the Chinese government trying to illegally persecute me by prohibiting me from returning to the United States to see my family. [The government] has exhausted all lawful measures to keep me in China, so now they have arranged this civil lawsuit, which is ludicrous however you look at it, to restrict me.”

ChinaAid President Dr. Bob Fu says

“all Americans should care about her difficulties because, like millions who are currently under arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance in China today, no American will be safe when traveling to China for tourism or business or any other purpose.”
