Henan – On January 25, 2010, the Xiayi People’s Court rejected the appeal of Zheng Xiancai and Li Guangren and affirmed the original decision on the No. 0405 administrative punishment. The court also rejected the defendants’ request for compensation.
On October 20 and 27, 2009, the Gusang church members Zheng Xiancai and Li Guangren authorized Attorney Wu Chenglian to be their legal representative, and appealed to the Xiayi People’s Court about the illegal action of the Xiayi Bureau of Public Safety.
After received the case, the court opened two trials on December 18, 2009 and January 23, 2010, at which Zheng Xiancai, Li Guangren, their representative Li Suxia, their attorney Wu Chenglian, and the representative of the defendant Police Ban Xiaomin appeared in court.
The Xiayi People’s Court totally rejected the plaintiffs’ administrative appeal and affirmed the illegal enforcement of the Bureau of the Public Safety and Religious Affairs. However, the court allowed an “administrative appeal to the Shangqiu Intermediate People’s Court within 15 days” if they did not accept the decision.
On January 30, 2010, a member of the Sanggu house church told us, “Our church leaders were interrogated by the police yesterday. The police believe we did not register as a legal church; those who were not arrested will be imposed a fine. They warned us not to fellowship any more; otherwise they will put us into education through labor.”
China Aid urges Chinese authorities to act justly and according to law.   We pray for the Sanggu house church members, that they will continue to persevere in the faith in the midst of this persecution.
