House of Representatives stands with China’s minorities

(Washington, D.C.—Dec. 3, 2019) The United States House of Representatives passed a bill today, allowing the U.S. to take action against China for atrocities committed against minority groups.

Authorities in China’s northwestern Xinjiang have been targeting Turkic people groups. Over the past few years, from 1-3 million people have been placed in internment camps.

China purports these camps are centers where inmates receive vocational training. However, survivors have reported torture, starvation, and forced labor.

This prompted the U.S. legislative body to pass a bill today. If signed into law, it will allow the United States to sanction Chinese officials involved in the suppression of these people groups.
