City inspectors surrounded
by the citizens.
|
On the afternoon of Aug. 29, in Jingzhou city, Gong’an county, Hubei Province, a city inspector beat an elderly farmer who was selling watermelon. Upon seeing the incident, hundreds of angry citizens surrounded the inspector and condemned his behavior. The inspector and two colleagues that were with him reportedly fled to the safety of their car out of fear. The citizens, however, followed the inspectors to the car and kept the them from leaving the scene until approximately midnight on Aug. 29. The citizens reportedly caused damage to the vehicle by smashing it. Local police attempted to intervene, but had no success.
ChinaAid condemns this violation of human rights. Thanks be to God that other citizens stepped up to defend the farmer. We pray for God to heal the farmer and for the city inspector to see the error of his ways.
