Letter from US Ambassador Randt TO Congressman Frank Wolf

China Aid Association
Embassy of The United
States of America

Beijing, China
November 6, 2007
Clark T. Randt, Jr.
                              Ambassador
Dear Congressman Wolf:
            Thank you
for your October 31 letter regarding democracy activist Peng Ming, who was
arrested in Burma in May
2004, subsequently turned over to Chinese authorities and sentenced to life in
prison in China
for alleged crimes, including terrorism. My staff and I monitor Mr. Peng’s case
closely and have expressed our serious concerns over his treatment to the
Chinese Government on multiple occasions.

            The Embassy
again contacted officials at the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs on
November 2 to press for answers in Mr. Peng’s case. The MFA officials shed no
light on the situations but said they would convey our inquiry to relevant
authorities.

            China’s
handling of Peng Ming’s case is deplorable. Moreover, China’s failure
to protect human dignity and rights in cases such as this one only undermines
the country’s efforts to earn the respect of the international community. I
will continue to protest China’s
treatment of Mr. Peng and seek his release at every opportunity.

With kind regards, I am
Very truly yours,
Clark T. Randt,Jr.
