Midcities Community Church Issues Support Letter for Zhang Family

China Aid Association

(October 20, 2008) It has been brought to our attention that Zhang Jian was severely beaten with iron bars at his mother€„¢s home by Public Security Bureau officers on October 16, 2008 for his faith in Jesus Christ.  This is a great concern.
China recently displayed its incredible talent, culture and history at the 2008 Olympic games.  The opening and closing ceremonies reflected the Chinese culture and people at its best.  The Chinese athletes performed with such excellence and dignity.  The spirit and excellence of China was truly displayed at the Beijing games.
I write to you today to consider that same spirit of excellence and dignity for your very own people.  In the same way that China exhibited its best at the Olympic games, pastors like Zhang exhibit their best by helping the Chinese people in their provinces to be better citizens and serving to improve the quality of people€„¢s lives.
Many people protest and rebel against the Chinese government out of rebellion and hatred.  These persecuted pastors are not fueling any anti-government propaganda.  These people are some of your greatest heroes as they serve the needy, help the poor, and love people.
We love so much about China and the wonderful people in your country.  We ask you to consider ways to stop the violence and free Zhang Jian, his family, and other like him from physical and psychological abuse.
Thank you for considering this request.
