(Mianning, Sichuan Province – October 4, 2024) Detention attorney Guo Haibo revealed that Bai Caiming, a rural preacher who was accused of “illegal business operations” and put under criminal detention by the Mianning County police in Liangshan, Sichuan, was released early on the afternoon of September 25, 2024, and was transferred from criminal detention to “residential surveillance.”
Lawyer Guo said that thanks to God’s grace, he met with Bai Caiming last week and had originally planned to meet again on the 25th, but as a result of the early release, the lawyer could directly go to the Mianning Detention Center to take him home. Guo Haibo said that the client was detained on September 11, 2024 and released on September 25. He praised Mianning’s efficiency and said that similar cases in Sichuan were detained for at least 37 days. Bai Caiming’s daughter also expressed her disbelief that she was so blessed, calling it a wonderful act of God.
On September 11, 2024, Bai Caiming, a disabled preacher in Mianning County, Liangshan Yi Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan, was criminally detained by the Mianning County Public Security Bureau for “engaging in illegal Christian activities” because of his Christian beliefs, and was charged with “illegal business operations.” The criminal detention notice did not indicate the end date of detention, which means Bai Caiming may be prosecuted. Bai Caiming’s wife Dong Shixia was sentenced to 10 days of public security detention for being “uncooperative” by the police. She returned home after completing her detention on September 19, 2024.
On September 21, Bai Caiming’s daughter issued a prayer letter announcing the matter, and churches, brothers and sisters began to pray for her and donate the legal fees needed. It took just a few hours to raise enough legal fees. Now that there is news about Bai Caiming’s early release and God’s grace. One cannot help becoming even more emotional: “The God who makes roads in the wilderness and rivers in the desert has truly demonstrated His presence and glory in us!”
