(Tokyo – February 27, 2026) On Monday, February 23, the second international forum “China’s Human Rights Abuses Unreported by the Media” (メディアが報じない中国人権弾圧), jointly organized by Japan’s Happiness Realization Party and Federation for a Democratic China, was held in Tokyo. The forum aimed to expose the severe human rights situation and the current plight of religious freedom in China. The following day, Dr. Bob Fu was warmly welcomed during his visit to the headquarters of the Happiness Realization Party, further strengthening dialogue and exchanges with Japanese political leaders.

The opening segment of the event featured a keynote speech by Pastor Bob Fu, founder of ChinaAid, and Eiji Satomura (さとむら えいいち), Chair of the Policy Research Council of the Happiness Realization Party.

An event recap by the Happiness Realization Party highlighted the compelling sharing of Pastor Bob Fu about his journey of faith following the June 4th Tiananmen Square incident. Moreover, testified to the harsh reality of persecution faced by China’s house churches (underground churches). He emphasized the importance of safeguarding religious freedom.

The report further highlighted the Chairperson Eiji Satomura’s analysis from a historical perspective. He revealed the deeper logic behind the Chinese Communist Party’s view of religion as a threat to its rule, and argued that “religious freedom” is the cornerstone of all human rights. In addition, drawing on his own experience reporting from China, he noted that as internal deflationary economic decline intersects with mounting international pressure—such as the diplomatic maneuvers of the Donald Trump administration—the power base of the Xi Jinping regime is facing unprecedented instability.

The forum’s second section moved into a panel discussion and Q&A session. Pastor Bob Fu, Chairman Eiji Satomura, and Wang Dai (王戴), Vice President of the Federation for a Democratic China (民主中国阵线), engaged in an in-depth discussion together with three panelists and the moderator, Gentaro Hatakeyama (はたけやま げんたろう), assistant director of the Party’s Public Relations, drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience.

Select Reflections from the Audience

Mr. Bob Fu is well known in the United States but not yet widely known in Japan. I believe it is very important for him to raise awareness in Japan and around the world, as this would help apply pressure against religious persecution in China, a Japanese woman in her 50s said.

I attended the first forum and hope that similar conferences will continue to be held in the future to deepen exchanges with the Japanese people. We will work together to achieve a democratic China, a Chinese man in his 70s stated.

The painful experiences I went through in China and the photos of crosses being destroyed filled me with deep sorrow. I believe that major religions around the world need to work together to confront the Chinese Communist Party, a Japanese woman in her 60s expressed.

I realized that we must speak on behalf of those who cannot speak for themselves, which made me once again aware of the importance of prayer, said a Japanese man in his 20s.
