Ping Tianci: Carrying in our bodies the death of Jesus

China Aid Association

His legs were broken, and he was electrocuted twice by PRC officials.

After Ping Tianci (53) was arrested in August, 2004, PRC authorities tortured him to force a confession.
During the first 40 days of his detainment, he lost consciousness on three occasions during torture. They stripped him, dragged him around by the hair, injured his legs and permanently damaged his ears.
“In my comas,” Ping recalls, “I always saw the cross and heard the Lord’s voice and comfort, ‘Forgive your enemies, because they don’t know what they are doing.’ “
On August 26, 2005, Ping was exposed to the harsh elements to try to force a confession, but to no avail.
The following month, he was sentenced to 40 days of hard labor, during which he was interrogated eight times, his legs were broken and he was electrocuted twice.
On September 25, Ping suffered a heart attack as a result of the abuse, went into shock and had to be resuscitated.
In mid-October, he was sentenced to “re-education through labor.” This is the highest form of administrative penalty, targeting those who are charged with violating the law but who do not qualify for criminal punishment. Re-education through labor is ordered by the police, while “transformation through labor” a form of criminal punishment that includes ideological, cultural and skills education toward the purpose of transformation is ordered by the court.
Ping was assigned to work a vegetable garden large enough to feed two hundred men, to care for the pigs and to clean the guards’ toilets, manually carrying away their excrement.
Despite all the suffering and humiliation, Ping was a model prisoner and continued to
work, even when he had to crawl to perform his duties.

After more than a year of constant abuse, his strength failed. Ping was hospitalized in the late stages of thrombosis (blood clots).
