(Washington, D.C.—Feb. 4, 2020) Taiwan Vice President-Elect William Ching-Te Lai met with Senator Marco Rubio yesterday.
According to Rubio’s Twitter, the two leaders talked about amending U.S.-Taiwan relations. In addition, they discussed the importance of Taiwanese contributions to global organizations.
This meeting represents one of the most historic breakthroughs for Taiwan-U.S. relations since 1979. That year, the U.S. established diplomatic relations with China and severed ties with Taiwan.
Lai is a guest of ChinaAid President and Founder Dr. Bob Fu. Fu is leading a delegation in Washington, D.C., this week for the National Prayer Breakfast.
During this trip, Lai will be scheduled to meet with congressional leaders and other very distinguished individuals during the National Prayer Breakfast period.
