Senator Arlen Specter Advocates for Shi Weihan

Below is the text of a letter sent by Senator Arlen Specter (R-PA) on September 17, 2008 to the Chinese Ambassador Zhou Wenzhong. View a copy of the acutal letter here.
“I write to express my deep concern over the incarceration of Shi Weihan.
I have been told that Shi Weihan has been held at the Beijing Haidian District Detention Center since March 19, 2008 for the unauthorized printing and dissemination of Bibles and other Christian literature to local churches.  I understand from press reports that Shi Weihan is a diabetic and that his health is deteriorating rapidly as a result of his not being given access to vital medication.
I appeal to the People’s Republic of China to immediately administer emergency medical care to Shi Weihan, and respectfully request that your government release him to receive further medical treatment in the United States.
