Update: The family members of these arrested prisoners have since been released. This report also previously incorrectly stated that these arrested Christians had gathered outside the police station while waiting for their loved ones.

(Chengdu, Sichuan—Feb. 15, 2019) China is holding five relatives of arrested church members in a detention center in Chengdu, Sichuan, after they sought diplomatic aid from Germany.

On Dec. 9, around 100 members of Early Rain Covenant Church were taken into custody. As of now, several of the church’s members are still imprisoned, including Elder Tan Defu, Elder Su Bingsen, and Christians Dai Zhichao and Li Xiaofeng.

Because of this, Su’s wife, Xu Miaozhuang, Tan’s wife, Xiao Hongliu, Dai’s wife, Lu Lingzhi, and Li’s husband, Shen Bing, sought help from officials at the German consulate in Chengdu, and they were taken away, along with Lu’s baby, by police officers this evening.
