(Washington, D.C.—June 2, 2020) President Trump issued an executive order encouraging the U.S. to uphold international religious freedom.
Within it, Trump listed religious freedom as “America’s first freedom … a moral and national security imperative.” He went on to order the Secretary of State to consult with the Administrator of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Secretary of State is then to develop a plan to “prioritize international religious freedom in the planning and implementation of United States foreign policy and in the foreign assistance programs of the Department of State and USAID.”
The Secretary of State will also use Chiefs of Mission in certain countries with known human rights violations to bolster U.S. efforts to further international religious freedom and encourage local governments eradicate religion-based freedom violations.
ChinaAid applauds the Trump Administration for this safeguard of international religious freedoms.
