(Chengdu, Sichuan—Oct. 27, 2017) Chinese authorities held two Christians for 24 hours each on Oct. 16-17, interfering with their plans to travel to Hong Kong.
A Christian surnamed Zhang recently told a ChinaAid reporter that several policemen and national security personnel detained a church member named Ding Shuqi at an airport in Chengdu, Sichuan, for a full day. Ding had been en route to a theological forum in Hong Kong and was accompanied by church members after his release. It is unknown whether or not he made it to the forum.
On a separate occasion, another Christian, Ran Yunfei, was forced to cancel his trip to Hong Kong on Oct. 16 after more than 10 government agents from various departments intercepted him at his home. For a day, they forbade him from leaving and took shifts watching him.
It is unknown whether Ran was also intending to attend the forum.
ChinaAid reports abuses, such as those suffered by Ding and Ran, in order to stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law.
