(HENAN – May 4, 2009) At 9:30 a.m. on April 5, officers from Luoshan county, Xinyang city Public Security Bureau (PSB) and State Security broke into Luoshan house church and arrested two Chinese Christian missionaries. Luoshan house church, located in Nanjie street, is also the home of Christian missionary Ms. Ren. Officers arrested Ms. Ren and another Christian missionary, Ms. Xiong who was in Ms. Ren’s home at the time of the raid.
Ms. Xiong became a missionary after retirement, and preaches in Fengdian church every Sunday. She also helps the local house church. Police seized Christian materials, including: The “Light of Life” books, 24 CD-ROM titled “Life Melody”, and 147 booklets. Police also removed a banner from the house, which had a cross and the church name on it. A local official stated, “This is an illegal church meeting without government approval. They purchased overseas religious publications, which is illegal too.”
At the time of this release, it was unclear whether the two Christian women had been released.
Contact the Chinese Embassy in Washington D.C. to urge them to release Ms. Ren and Ms. Xiong, and allow Luoshan house church to continue meeting.
