My name is Yang Xiao Xia, resident of ShanXi providence in the city of DaTong [untranslated address].
I was captured in mid-August of 2001 at Mr. [Hsu]’s home. At the time, we were brought to [WuDong police station] and were locked in a room until the afternoon when we were questioned. When we didn’t answer their questions, we were tortured until we say something. At the time, I did not tell them the whole truth. After a while, we were put back into the room until night time when we were relocated to [name of place]. After spending two days of idleness there, they questioned us again. This time, we were questioned by another man. One of the questions asked was about the relation between the pastor and me. I insisted that there was nothing going on between us. Since they did not have enough evidence to press charges at the time, they stopped their detailed questioning. After a few days, we were brought to [ city jail ]. During the period of time that we were there, they persistently asked about the situations of our gatherings until we were finally told to take our things to leave. The three of us were relocated to [another city jail]. There, I saw [a brother] being held with 50 kg of chains and I felt very afraid. If it were not for our carelessness, we would not have caused so many people to be tortured. At that jail, they asked again about the relation between me and the pastor. This time, I was forced to admit that the pastor raped me. Yet, because that did not happen, I did not submit to their demands in accusing the pastor for rape. One day, I was called and was asked again about the relation between me and the pastor. First, they deceived me by saying “Your pastor has already pointed you out. Why are you so stubborn and would not admit it? If you don’t admit it, we will beat you to death. Zhang Xiao Hong has already pointed you out. Why wouldn’t you admit it?” Then, they showed me Zhang Xiao Hong’s accusation letter and forced me to write one of the same. Being a late believer faced with such a situation, I was not able to stand firm and cannot help but be afraid that they might use the same kind of torture on me as they did on [a brother mentioned earlier]. At the same time, I also desperate to leave this inhumane place as soon as possible. So, I was willing to do anything they asked in order to leave. Therefore, I agreed to follow Zhang Xiao Hong in writing a similar accusation letter. After I was done writing, I was fingerprinted. After one day, more officials came to question us. At that time, they repeated all the evidence we’ve given them and made an official document. Then, they locked us again in another cell. After 2 days, no one came to question us anymore, but someone came to tell us to take our things and leave. At the front door, we got into a car and were taken to the train station. They didn’t say anything to us and we left.
Now, we regret very much for having written the accusation letter because none of it was what we wanted to write but all was forced upon us by the officials there and the pastor did not rape us. He is not a rapist has not committed the rape crime. We have not had any sexual contact. So rape does not exist. Again, I truly regret having written that accusation letter. It was a wrong act. He has not raped us but I was forced to write it by the officials. I am willing to appear in person for further examination to affirm the authenticity of this claim.
