China Aid Association is issuing an urgent call for prayer after learning that China’s top leaders have decided to take new measures in the coming days against one of Beijing’s largest house churches, measures that are entirely different from tactics so far implemented against Shouwang Church and which could completely change the nature of the church-state clash.
ChinaAid asks all Christians worldwide to show their concern and solidarity and to pray.
ChinaAid in its April 27 response to the Global Times commentary clearly pointed out that “the storm is intensifying,” and expressed the “fear and worry that the Chinese government, in order to protect its interests, will take severe measures against Shouwang Church and its believers.”
The developments of the past four consecutive weeks have clearly shown that there are no signs of the Beijing regime tolerating or imminently tolerating Shouwang Church’s holding the bottom line of religious practices and acting for purely religious reasons.
From the just-concluded U.S.-China human rights dialogue one can see that China has completely taken the initiative in U.S.-China diplomacy and in its fearless attitude has left the United States ashamed, weakened and helpless. But the Shouwang events from the very beginning have been the responsibility of the Chinese church and Chinese Christians themselves; it is the cross that we must carry. This blood- and tear-stained cross is one that the Chinese church, especially the house churches, has already carried for 60 years.
ChinaAid strongly urges all churches and Christians worldwide to join the ranks of those who are praying for and supporting Shouwang church and its brothers and sisters. We firmly believe that even if Shouwang Church is scattered, the church in China will be like a lamp burning ever bright in the darkness, bringing boundless hope to the Chinese people. Just as the Lord Jesus promised in the Bible: The gates of hell shall not prevail over the church!
