(Ningbo, Zhejiang—Jan. 20, 2017) The government in China’s coastal Zhejiang province is cracking down on state-run churches by increasing surveillance on the content of their sermons, on the number of church members, and other activities.

As part of this endeavor, the government installed cameras in almost every official church and the local united work front department and public security bureau planted an official minder in Xikou Jesus Church. From these sources, officials are able to gain information the number people attending each church, the content of the sermons, and any other religious events.

China Aid exposes such infringements on the operation of churches in order to protect vulnerable Christians from persecution, stand with those who are targeted by the government, and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law.
