(Midland, Texas—Aug. 21, 2017) Authorities in an undisclosed area of China recently ordered Christians to replace photos of crosses with portraits of Mao Zedong and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Christians in an unspecified region are being forced to replace pictures of crosses with photos of Mao and Xi. This echoes a similar practice common in North Korea, in which offices, homes, transportation systems, public areas, and schools are required to display pictures of deceased leaders Kim Jong Il and Kim Il Sung.
ChinaAid exposes abuses, such as those suffered by the Christians affected by this new order, to stand in solidarity with persecuted Christians and promote religious freedom, human rights, and rule of law.
