Bai Dongping, one of the signers of Charter 08 and an activist in 1989 pro-democracy movement in Beijing, was detained last Saturday on suspicion of “inciting to subvert the state power.”
He was charged for sending a photo taken during the June 4 demonstration to a QQ chat lounge. Police also seized a computer from his home.
A rights defender in Beijing spoke with Bai Dongping on the phone this morning. Bai returned to his home in Xicheng at 7 p.m. on December 1.
Upon release, police not only placed him under around-the-clock surveillance, but they also they forbade him to do three things: he must not leave his home, he must not have contact with other people, and he must not take part in interviews.
During his detention, the police interrogated him about the photo of June 4 Incident he sent to the QQ chat lounge and his opinions on related issues.
