Activist barred from leaving home

(Hangzhou, Zhejiang—April 6, 2020) Authorities barred a Christian human rights activist from leaving her house to buy groceries and medication.

Li Qing, a resident of Hangzhou, Zhejiang, said police began monitoring her home on March 27. Several guarded her door day and night. Li suffers from radiation poisoning, and when she went out to buy food and groceries, authorities dragged her back. It had been more than a month since she was able to obtain medication refills.

After she fought for her rights, the police reported her to their superior, and she was escorted to the hospital. Since then, she has not been able to leave her house.

Li is a Christian and rights advocate who used to live on subsistence checks. However, after she petitioned the authorities on a matter related to her husband’s death, this income was suspended, and she has had trouble supporting herself.
