BEIJING — Mr. Dai Jinbo, a member of Chinese Christian Legal Defense Association, had his government-issued identification card confiscated by an Officer Wu in Beijing. After this incident, a friend called his cell phone, but he did not answer. Normally in cases like this, when someone does not return attempts at communication, they may be under police detention or subject to surveillance.

On October 19 at 4:30 p.m., one officer in uniform along with three plainclothes officers stopped the famous Christian writer Mr. Yu Jie from leaving his home. Any outsiders were blocked from visiting Jie’s home, and his Internet connection has been disconnected. Police told Yu Jie that if he wanted to purchase groceries, he would have to give a shopping list to officers, who would go and buy what they requested.

Yu Jie is the author of “Wen Jiabao: China’s Best Actor”, a highly controversial book criticizing China’s premier.

Police officers in Beijing have without warrant restricted the rights of these two Chinese Christians who uphold justice. ChinaAid calls for the suppression to cease, and their rights be restored.
