(Prague—April 1, 2016) China Aid will partner with the Czech Republic-based organization Forum 2000 Foundation to promote a new advocacy initiative, the Information Centre for Democracy and Human Rights in China.

According to Forum 2000, the goal of the Information Centre is to “promote an open discussion about the situation within the People’s Republic of China, and allow the Czech public to acquaint itself with the facts and form its own informed opinion on the subject.” The Centre will focus on the state of human rights in Tibet, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and the rest of mainland China regarding the fates of political prisoners, economic development, diplomatic relations, ethnic and religious minorities and other general human rights issues through the use of exhibitions, lectures, seminars, discussions with students in school, debates and other activities.

The initiative coincides with an upcoming visit to Prague by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Forum 2000 Foundation expressed concern about the single party regime currently ruling China, citing the negative experiences of the Czech Republic (as Czechoslovakia) between 1948 and 1989 under a similar regime. The Forum also stated that “Human rights in China are violated on a daily basis, the freedom of expression is limited, and the situation of religious, cultural, and ethnic minorities is, despite the constitutionally anchored guarantees, very problematic.”

China Aid is joined by Amnesty International, Initiatives for China, International Campaign for Tibet, Post Bellum, Prague National Gallery, Lungta, Potala, MOST, Češi Tibet podporují, and Iniciativa pro evropské hodnoty in partnering with the Forum 2000 Foundation for this Centre.

China Aid participates in advocacy efforts such as the Information Centre for Democracy and Human Rights in China in order to expose human rights abuses in China.
