A PUBLIC LETTER TO HU JINTAO FROM HUA HUIQI
Thursday, September 4, 2008

To: Mr. Hu Jintao, President of the People’s Republic of China
Dear respectable president:
I am writing this letter to Your Excellency as a resident of Beijing Municipality and as a citizen of China and I ask Your Excellency to show concern on a case where I myself and my family are being illegally abused in the country under your rule.
Now, I’m still a fugitive at large because I tried to escape from the illegal kidnapping and beating by Your Excellency’s political police during the Olympic Games. Now that the Olympic Games are over, I need to end my life as a fugitive as soon as possible.
On the morning of August 10 when my brother Hua Huilin and I were on our way to Kuanjie Church for a Sunday service, we were illegally kidnapped by the police from Homeland Security Defense Brigade from Chongwen District of Beijing Municipality.  Bai Ying (transliteration), one of the police officers, led 7-8 policemen in plain clothes in beating and kicking me.  Then, they escorted me and my brother Hua Huilin to two vehicles. At the place where they detained us, they conducted illegal interrogations on us and threatened us. They said to me: “We just don’t allow you to go to Kuanjie Church. If you say again that you want to go there, we’ll break your legs!” After about 4-5 hours, due to the negligence of the people who were watching me, I had a chance to escape and I am still at large.
I’m a Christian who was baptized at Kuanjie Church over 10 years ago. Going to this church to do a Sunday service is one of my basic rights. I am a citizen of China and I have never said or done anything against the law. Nor have I said or done anything against Beijing hosting the Olympic Games. Given this condition, I am not clear what rights and necessities Your Excellency’s political police have to kidnap, beat and threaten me in underworld styles.
I myself and my family have never opposed or resisted in any way the rule Your Excellency and the political party of Your Excellency implements in China. I myself and my family have always supportive of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games enthusiastically hosted by Your Excellency and Your Excellency’s government. However, since Beijing started making its preparations for the Olympic Games, the freedom, properties and other aspects of life of myself and my family have been continuously and seriously violated by Your Excellency’s government and political police.
On September 3, 2002, my family’s house in Chongwen District, Beijing Municipality was forcibly demolished by Your Excellency’s government in the name of making preparations for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. So far, we still have not got any compensations for it. As a result, the three generations in my family don’t have a fixed place to stay and our otherwise normal life is seriously affected.  For this, I myself and my family have made complaints to the relevant government agencies on many occasions to seek a fair and reasonable solution.  However, what we got back is attacks, revenge and the more serious illegal abuses.
On January 26, 2007, my 78-year-old mother and I were illegally arrested by Your Excellency’s political police. After we the son and the mother were inhumanely mistreated, we were illegally tried and convicted.  In the prison, Your Excellency’s political police demanded on many occasions that I cooperate with them and wanted me to secretly provide information on the activities of house churches and human rights defenders in the society and to work with Your Excellency’s political police to lay traps for some people. They told me in unequivocal terms that these were the conditions for the release of us mother and son. My mother is still held as a hostage and is being illegally detained in Your Excellency’s prison. I myself and my family are told that the level of cooperation between me and the police directly affects the treatment my 78-year-old mother receives in the prison (the degree of being mistreated). My imprisoned mother is the hostage in the hands of the police!
Though I was released from the prison on July 26, 2007, yet, as I refuse to submit to the despicable demands of Your Excellency’s political police, the three generations of my family, including my father who is 90, have been placed under house arrest. They are under threats and various other forms of persecution. Given this condition, it is impossible for them to live a normal life, nor is it possible for them to obtain financial income through normal jobs.
Starting from October 1, 2007, the three generations of my family were illegally confined in our residence for over 10 days by Your Excellency’s political police. We were also demanded to accept the conditions of working with the police. Out of my conscience of Christian justice, I was forced to make public to the church and the society at large the shameless and illegal demands of Your Excellency’s political police and I openly expressed my refusal to get involved in their conspiracy. Your Excellency’s political police were infuriated and flew into a rage. They led hordes of underworld gangsters and in the full light of the public; they brutally mistreated and beat me and my family in various inhumane ways. As a result of this, I suffered injuries in many parts of my body and I suffered a serious cerebral concussion which drove me into a coma and caused incontinence in me and I was rushed to a hospital for emergency care.
My kidnapping by Your Excellency’s political police on August 10 of this year is by no means an isolated accident. I myself don’t want to lose this present freedom, no matter how pitifully little it is.  Nowadays, to Your Excellency, the 2008 Olympic Games have come to a victorious end and China has won achievements that make people proud. Yet, to me, I have a 90-year-old father and a 12-year-old daughter to take care and I still have a 78-year-old mother in the prison that I need to rescue. My family needs a comfortable home and a satisfactory job and I need to end this life as a fugitive as soon as possible.
I hereby declare to Your Excellency that I will end by myself my life as a fugitive on the second day after I mail this letter and return to my home in Chongwen District, Beijing Municipality. I myself appeal to Your Excellency to protect my safety and personal freedom after I end my life as a fugitive and show attention to the case in which my family and I are illegally abused. I also appeal to you to release my mother and return justice to me and my family.
I myself also appeal to Your Excellency not to use violence and terror as a means of controlling a country, not to trample at will citizens’ basic human rights and conscience of humanity. Instead, you should rule by law as much as possible and restrain the terrorist actions of Your Excellency’s political police.
As a Christian, I wish my God will greatly bless China! I wish God who created the universe, governs everything and saves the world will greatly bless China! May God’s freedom and justice be established in China and become the foundation of our country!
I wish Your Excellency and Your Excellency’s colleagues get God’s mercy! May God soften the hearts of Your Excellency and Your Excellency’s colleagues so that Your Excellency and Your Excellency’s colleagues have a chance to know the almightiness and awe of God and that Your Excellency and Your Excellency’s regime will avoid the fate of Pharaohs of Egypt!
