ChinaAid strongly condemns the Chinese Communist Party and the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government for sentencing Catholic prisoner of conscience and media freedom advocate Jimmy Lai to 20 years in prison, along with eight other journalists and defenders of free expression, under the so-called National Security Law.
These individuals were punished solely for exercising freedom of expression and upholding journalistic integrity. Their convictions represent a deliberate and systematic assault on press freedom, religious freedom, and the rule of law.
ChinaAid calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all those imprisoned and urges President Donald Trump and leaders of the free world to impose strong, coordinated, and effective pressure on the Chinese Communist Party to secure their freedom.
Dr. Bob Fu, Founder and President of ChinaAid states:
“Jimmy Lai and his colleagues are prisoners of conscience, not criminals.
When courts serve tyranny, silence becomes complicity.
The free world must act now—decisively—to pressure the CCP
and help secure their freedom.”
