(Shanxi – August 12, 2025) Recently, Pastor Wang Xiaoguang, a leader of a house church in Linfen, Shanxi, conveyed a deeply moving message through his lawyer while facing persecution from authorities. His son, Brother Wang Yunxiang, relayed the message to the public. The words reflect Pastor Wang’s steadfastness towards faith and spiritual perspective on suffering, bringing encouragement and comfort to many Christians.
Brother Wang Yunxiang said he had specifically asked the lawyer to inquire about his father’s thoughts on the persecution he was enduring. Pastor Wang Xiaoguang’s response was as follows:
“Persecution has existed since ancient times. The author of The Pilgrim’s Progress was sentenced to twelve years; I cannot compare myself to him, but the Heavenly Father has made it clear to me: this persecution is to bless the hearts of many. Do not be sad, rejoice, for this blessing far surpasses the present suffering.”
“The Lord has shown me that when Jesus was crucified on the cross, all the unfairness is not without purpose, and every injustice is subject to God’s righteous judgment. Had I not gone through this, I could not have experienced this so deeply. Though I have no Bible in hand, I often meditate on Scripture, and each morning I awake to new light, far more profound and richer than my previous understanding of the ‘theology of the cross.’” He said.
“Joseph was imprisoned for only eight or ten years, and after being released at the age of thirty, he continued to serve God for many more years. My health is good, and I firmly believe that God will preserve me and give me longevity. What we receive from the Lord far exceeds all that we have currently lost. May Yunxiang be grateful for me, and thank God for the great blessing He has given.”
These words show that even amid persecution and hardship, Pastor Wang Xiaoguang remains firm in his faith, full of hope, and believes that in suffering, God has a wonderful will in the midst of suffering.
Pastor Wang’s message calls people to view hardship from a heavenly perspective and even more so encourages Chinese Christians to hold on to faith and hope under present pressures.

Pastor Wang Xiaoguang and his wife, Yang Rongli, have served in Linfen, Shanxi, for many years, dedicating themselves to the establishment and growth of Golden Lampstand Church. Once a representative of China’s house church movement, the Golden Lampstand Church carried the faith and hopes of countless Christians, therefore drew the government’s attention and became a target of suppression. As early as 2009, the church was forcibly demolished, Yang Rongli, the pastor’s wife, was sentenced to several years in prison, and Pastor Wang was repeatedly summoned and placed under surveillance. Yet they never compromised, holding fast to the principles of free worship and public preaching
Pastor Wang’s latest arrest is a continuation of his long-standing commitment to his pastoral calling and faith. He and his wife are living testimonies, and have deeply influenced countless house church Christians, becoming a symbol of steadfast faith and resilience for China’s house churches in difficult times.
