On October 14, 2010, the founder of African Enterprise, Michael Cassidy, wrote a letter to the Chinese ambassador to South Africa. In this open letter, Dr. Cassidy advocated for believers, stating that the government in China should allow their citizens to travel to attend the Lausanne Congress:
14 October 2010
To His Excellency
The Chinese Ambassador to South Africa
Your Excellency,
As the International Partnership Board of African Enterprise, a Christian ministry spanning the length and breadth of the African continent, we are writing to you to express deep concern and even dismay, that apparently the Chinese delegation to the Lausanne Congress in Cape Town (October 17-24) have been refused travel documents by the Chinese authorities.
In this regard we want to assure you that this is a spiritual and non-political gathering.
Insofar as this global Congress, hosted on African soil, will be much diminished by the non-presence of the Chinese delegation, and insofar as this will also damage the positive image of your country here in Africa, we do appeal and plead with your government to reverse this decision and allow your delegation to attend. Multiplied millions of Christians across Africa will be most relieved and thankful if your government would respond positively to this request.
Thank you, Sir.
With all good wishes,
Dr Michael Cassidy
