(Beijing — October 10, 2025) According to Beijing Zion Church, its pastor, Wang Lin, was taken into police custody on Wednesday while traveling from Shanghai to Shenzhen. He is reportedly being held at an unspecified detention center in Shenzhen. As of press time, his family has not received a formal detention notice nor been allowed to contact him.
Disappearance and Detention
Internal reports of the church indicate that contact with Pastor Wang Lin was cut off around noon on October 8. It was not until the following morning that the church learned he had been detained by police at Shenzhen Bao’an Airport. His family has since tried to reach relevant authorities to inquire about his whereabouts, but it was stated that police have not provided any specific information.
Background and Ministry Work
Wang Lin graduated from the School of Law of Zhejiang University and became a Christian in 2006. Beginning in 2009, he pursued full-time theological studies, earning both a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology. He obtained a Ph.D. in Old Testament Theology in 2017 and returned to China upon receiving his degree, where he joined Beijing Zion Church as a pastor. In recent years, his main ministry work has been based in Shanghai.
Ongoing Harassment and Family Struggles
According to the church, since June 2025, Pastor Wang Lin and his family have faced repeated harassment, unable to settle down because they are forced to relocate frequently, and even disrupting their two children’s education. His wife and children are said to be under significant emotional distress.
Call for Prayer and Official Silence
Beijing Zion Church called on Christians to pray for Pastor Wang Lin and his family, expressing concern over the situation: “May God’s justice be demonstrated through him.” “May the Lord protect the peace of His servant.”
As of now, Shenzhen police have not issued any public response regarding the case.
