HENAN — The court session for the trial of second instance in the case of Liu Yunhua and Gao Jianli of Xuchang, Henan province will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, September 20, 2010. The trial will take place at the Intermediate People’s Court of Xuchang, located at the intersection of Qianjin Road and Weiwen Road. ChinaAid encourages all people in the area to consider the plight of Gao and Liu and to attend the court session as visitors.
Late in March of this year, Gao Jianli and other Christians refused to pay bribes to police officers and stood firm in their belief that “Jesus is Lord”. They were detained for 15 days as a result. On March 25th, they were sentenced to one year of re-education through labor. ChinaAid and other media outlets reported on the conduct of the Henan authorities, while the Christians under persecution took judicial steps to safeguard their freedom of belief and submitted an administrative lawsuit against the illegal actions of the authorities.
On August 2, 2010, Weidu District Court of Xuchang Municipality of Henan rejected the lawsuit served by Gao Jianli and Liu Yunhua against the Shangqiu Municipal Committee for Re-education Through Labor, and upheld the administrative decision from the trial of first instance that sentenced Gao and Liu to one year each of re-education through labor.

The attorney representing the plaintiffs in this case was notified and is preparing for the trial of second instance taking place on Monday.
ChinaAid continues to urge the authorities in Henan to uphold justice in the upcoming trial. We encourage local citizens of conscience to attend the session to show their support, and ask Christians around the world to continue to pray for Gao Jianli, Liu Yunhua, and their families.
