(Sichuan- April 7, 2008) CAA has learned that five more leaders detained in Sichuan Province on March 30,were released from detention. 8 of the leaders are female and have been detained in criminal detention which could result in up to 3 years of reeducation through labor. Meanwhile, 2 are serving 15 days administrative detention. The leaders were accused of being “evil cult members”, a charge often applied by PSB officials against members of house churches.
The members belong to Lao Ma Tou Church, which translates, old port church in Qu County. The church has been established for about 10 years ago and has an evangelical affiliation. The names of those detained are:
Ms. Zhang Mingxiu, ms. Zhou Yanmei (both serving 15 Days); Ms. Li Cixia; Ms Luo Qinghua, Ms Lei Shibi, Ms Xiao Yu, Ms. Wang Qingxiu and Ms Wan Huabi. All are married and are around 30 to 40 years old. Some have children. The 6 women held in criminal detention were accused of spreading an evil cult to children. They were arrested while participating in a Sunday school class held, on March 30. China Aid is concerned for the safety of those detained, as officials commonly practice torture and abuse of detained Christians.
