ChinaAid Urges International Action to Prevent the Imminent Destruction of Yayang Christian Church in Wenzhou, China

(Wenzhou, Zhejiang province — January 5, 2026) ChinaAid Association urgently calls on the international community to take immediate action to prevent the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) authorities from carrying out destructive actions against Yayang Christian Church (雅阳教堂) in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province.

According to credible and verified information received by ChinaAid from believers on the ground, on January 5, 2026, CCP authorities mobilized hundreds of armed police and special police forces to completely encircle Yayang Christian Church. Christian residents living near the church have been forcibly cleared or driven away, and individuals at the scene have been strictly ordered not to take photographs or record video.

At the same time, heavy engineering machinery, including cranes and bulldozers, has been deployed to the site. Although authorities have not publicly announced their intentions, there is grave concern that the operation may involve the forced removal of the church’s cross or the demolition, seizure, or destruction of the church building itself.

The situation remains extremely tense. Believers are facing intimidation, isolation, and the imminent threat of violent enforcement. This unfolding siege represents a serious escalation in the CCP’s systematic campaign of religious persecution under the policy of so-called “Sinicization of religion.”

Dr. Bob Fu, President of ChinaAid, stated:

“The mobilization of hundreds of armed police and heavy demolition equipment against a peaceful Christian church is not law enforcement—it is state-sponsored religious persecution. Wenzhou, long known as ‘China’s Jerusalem,’ is once again under siege. History has shown repeatedly that no regime can extinguish faith through force. If the world remains silent at this critical moment, it will only embolden the CCP to destroy more churches and trample fundamental human dignity.”

ChinaAid emphasizes that any destruction of Yayang Christian Church would constitute a serious violation of international human rights standards, including Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, which guarantees freedom of religion or belief.

ChinaAid urgently calls upon governments, United Nations human rights mechanisms, international media, global churches, and civil society organizations to closely monitor this situation and take immediate action to prevent irreversible harm.

Time is critical. The international community must act now.
