Personal Account of Chen Xiqiong and Liang Guihua

January 23, 2008
How the whole thing happened:

At 8:35 on the morning of January 23, 2008, we went to Defense Brigade of Xishan District Branch of Public Security Bureau to see Chen Kunguang to talk about the Christian books seized respectively on November 29, 2007 and December 5, 2007. They declared that ours was an illegal gathering site and that the books we had were illegal books, etc.  We said: “Today, we don’t talk about other things except what has happened to our seized belongings.”  Chen said: “This case is not handled by me alone. People from Bureau of Culture and Bureau of Religion and other agencies are also involved. Therefore, I can’t promise when we can do that. When they have decided on this, we will notify you.” As they had already cheated us several times in this way, we said: “You give us a specific time.” He said: “We can’t give you a specific time.”
We were sitting in the guard’s room and a policeman named Zhang tried to drive us out. We said: “We are here to do some business.” He then grabbed Chen Xiqiong by the arm. Chen Xiqiong said: “I’m a woman. Don’t drag me like this.”  Zhang said: “Woman? So what? Get out!” After that, he pushed Chen Xiqiong out of the guard’s room by force.
Then, this policeman named Zhang came back and grabbed Liang Guihua on the chair and yelled at her in a loud voice: “You get out of here!  Don’t sit in my guard’s room.” While saying this, he pulled Liang Guihua and pushed her to the door of the room. Then, he pressed Liang on the chest with one hand and pressed on Liang’ back with another hand. In this position, he pushed Liang to an iron bench.  Her head hit the wall and there was a loud thudding sound. Instantly, Liang felt dizzy and felt black in the eye. It was only after more than 10 minutes that she recovered full consciousness. By that time, all those people had left.
We sat outside for more than half an hour. Then we went in again to look for that person named Chen. We tried twice and asked him what they should do about the beating that had just happened.  I was very dizzy. Chen gave no answer. Then he told us to go back home and come back on the 28th of the month. After Liang Guihua came back, her dizziness got very serious. At 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon, I went again to them. There was not a single soul there. A person from the next room came out and said: “Don’t sit inside” and made some threatening remarks.  Chen Xiqiong called Chen Kunguang on the phone: “As for the beating that occurred this morning, send over a person to accompany us to the doctors.” Chen said: “Do you want me to be responsible for this?”  Chen Xiqiong said: “I only want you to testify because you were present at the scene.” Chen said: “Don’t wait for me because I won’t come.”, and then hung up the phone. We had to come back and went to Hospital No. 43 to see a doctor. Attached is our medical record and lab reports.
