(Beijing—Sept. 17, 2019) The son of imprisoned Chinese human rights lawyer Wang Quanzhang has been denied schooling at several institutions, according to Wang’s wife, Li Wenzu.

Li, who wrote a letter describing the experience, stated that in 2016, local police ordered all kindergarten institutions—the equivalent of pre-school in the United States—to refuse admittance to her son, Quan Quan, because he is Wang’s child. Two years later, Li found a private institution willing to accept Quan Quan, and Li reported that he finished kindergarten and enjoyed attending the school very much.

On Sept. 2 of this year, Quan Quan began elementary school. By the fourth day, however, authorities had already begun pressuring the school administration, and Quan Quan was forced to withdraw.

The government’s actions caused Li great distress, and she said she burst into tears when she returned home after hearing the news.
